BUSINESS TRAVEL VISA EXEMPTION FOR CANADIANS TO ARGENTINA

As of December 1, 2016, the Ministry of the Interior, Public Works, and Housing of the Nation decided to eliminate the requirement for Argentine consular visas for Canadians traveling to Argentina for business to promote investments and foster economic and commercial relations with Canada.

In this regard, the resolution published in the Official Gazette on November 16, 2016, by the National Executive Power and signed by the head of the Ministry of the Interior of the Nation, Rogelio Frigerio, expressly states that the visa exemption for “the nationals of Canada holding ordinary passports of their nationality, when their entry into the country is for business purposes…”.

Additionally, the resolution clarifies that the measure is adopted “…on a transitory basis and for a period of ninety days, extendable for an equal period…”.

Among the objectives of the resolution are the following:

  • Strengthen bilateral relations with Canada aimed at boosting trade and tourism;
  • Create a favorable framework to encourage cultural, scientific, technological activities and international relations; and
  • Establish strategic migratory bases, fulfilling the commitments of the Argentine Republic in terms of integration and mobility of migrants.
